  12. Turbo Silver New Features
  13.  
  14. 1.    SPIN.... allows you to make objects that are symetrical along the Z 
  15. axis.  You can now make objects like wine glasses, chess men vases or even 
  16. cigars.  Spin allows you the ability to pick the amount of sides to any 
  17. object, thereby making objects that appear smooth as well as facited.

  19. 2.    EXTRUDE...with extrude you can create free form objects that will 
  20. be extruded along the Y axis.  This feature makes creating letters and 
  21. other unique objects a real snap.

  23. 3.    STENCIL...by using any picture created with any IFF paint program, 
  24. the user can create a black background or zero color and draw or manipulate 
  25. one other color, to create a stencil.  When traced in Turbo Silver, the zero 
  26. color will show the background as though it were gen-locked and the other 
  27. color image will show normal.  This feature allows creation of logos and the 
  28. like for fast and efficent flybys, rolls and moves.  Stencils will cast 
  29. shadows and act as in all manners, just like any other Silver object, with 
  30. the exception of depth, the Stencil is only one pixel deep.

  32. 4.    3D Wire Frame Editor.   this feature allows the creation of almost any
  33. type of shape that can be you can imagine.  This feature allows you to create 
  34. your own set of shape tables.

  36. 5.    New Shapes.. In Silver 1.X you were able to only use the base 
  37. primitives.  With Turbo Silver you can use the 3D editor to make shapes or 
  38. you can call from the Custom Menu one of some preset shapes they are :... 
  39. Spheres,Cones, Torus, Tube, Ring and Disk.  These have the same names as the 
  40. older primitives, with the exception of the same name all of the objects are 
  41. created using triangles.  This gives you the ability to squash and stretch on 
  42. any axis.

  44. 6.    Surface, Silver no longer has a ground, we found that a ground is not 
  45. the most tidy way to create a good trace.  If you wish to have a ground you 
  46. can now create your own using surface.

  48. 7.    Refraction...Turbo Silver now has true refraction, ie you can create 
  49. objects that are air, (clear) glass, water and crystal,  In the event that 
  50. you would desire to create an object with the refraction index of Emerald you 
  51. can do so by using the custom refraction index menu item.

  53. 8.    Octree Tracing Techniques. This new technique similar to the techniques 
  54. used on much larger machines gives Turbo Silver it's new name.  With this 
  55. technique applied to Silver you trace times will be reduced dramatically,  
  56. In some cases there is a 100 fold decrease in trace time.  
  57. As only an aproximate example a trace that would take 6 hours in Silver 1.X 
  58. will now take on the average of 35 minutes.  The other important feature of 
  59. Octrees is that you will no longer have to do any bounding.  In reality 
  60. bounding is automatic.

  62. 9.    Improved color pallete with Phong shading techniques.  This feature 
  63. gives the final rendered cell real visual "PUNCH"!

  65. 10.    Virtual Disk storage.  All cells that are created are saved to disk.  
  66. The will allow the memory of the computer to be unencumbered with excess 
  67. information floating around in the computer.  This featue has two advantages.
  68. One, the computer will never be asking for as much memory and this leads to 
  69. less fragmentation of memory.  The other advantage of a virtual storage system
  70. is the fact that once created in the editor the information is saved 
  71. immediately.  In the rare occasion of a GURU or other problem like power out, 
  72. the information and file that you have been wroking on will be intact.

  74. 11.    Greater control over both lighting models with a wider range of 
  75. latitude in brightness .  The Moveable light can also be associated with an 
  76. object or group making rotation and movement very easy and controllabe.

  78. 12.    Editor new features.  Co-ordinate marker.  This info box will tell 
  79. you at all times just where you cursor is in any view.

  81. 13.    Join ...a new command in the Editor allows you to take two different 
  82. objects and connect them together on a very permanent basis.  This command 
  83. also resolves the overlapping of other triangles making the smoothing of 
  84. these objects very clean and crisp.

  86. 14.    The axis (old null point) now has all three co-ordinate markers shown.
  87. By the addition of these markers the world of Silver has fixed axis and the 
  88. objects have their own axis.  This attribute will allow you move in realtive 
  89. world space or just the space of the object .

  91. 15.    Tweening and Story creation.  This feature allows you to create a 
  92. complete story or animation without having to create each cell.  Simply tell 
  93. the objects what to do and over what period of time.  Turbo Silver does the 
  94. rest.  This feature alone will make your animations simpler and quicker to 
  95. create.
